TEMPO is a groundbreaking artist development and immersion program for youth offered by Roots Music Project (RMP).

What is TEMPO?
​
TEMPO is a unique, semester-long program designed for youth aged 14–19 who are passionate about pursuing careers in the music industry. Whether their goal is to attend college for music or enter the professional world directly, TEMPO bridges the gap between education and industry by providing:

Hands-on learning experiences in live sound, stage management, and music production.

Industry-specific workshops such as songwriting, marketing, and music business.

One-on-one mentorship with active, accomplished professionals.

Paid performance opportunities to showcase their talents.

Work Study opportunities after finishing the program
Participants also gain valuable insights into college preparation, resume building, and networking—all while fostering creativity, resilience, and professional readiness.

Limited Spots Available
TEMPO’s Spring Semester runs from February 24th to April 25th, 2025, and includes 65 hours of immersive learning, paid performances, and mentorship. Spots are limited, and we encourage early applications to secure placement.

TEMPO: Training Emerging Musicians for Professional Opportunities
A RMP Artists Development & Immersion Program for Youth
Mission:
An immersion program for youth artists that are seeking college and career preparation and advancement in the music industry.

Vision:
​
A program that targets ages 14-19 yrs old bridging the gaps in education for aspiring youth music industry professionals by offering real-world experience in venues, performance, and the music industry. This program equips students with practical skills, preparing them to thrive as professionals in the music field. It enhances the prospects of those aiming to pursue music education in college by providing hands-on, work-based learning, while also preparing students to enter the music industry directly if they choose to forgo college.
It is the only program of its kind in the region that combines college and career preparation with a paid, work-based learning experience and one to one mentorship with some of the region's leading active professionals. Upon completion, each student will receive a letter of recommendation, resume guidance and opportunities for further paid employment within the industry and paid opportunities inside of Roots Music Project.

Our philosophy is rooted in the belief that aspiring youth artists deserve comprehensive, hands-on learning experiences that bridge the gap between education and the real-world music industry. We believe in empowering students through practical, work-based learning that prepares them to thrive—whether they pursue higher education or step directly into professional music careers.

We are committed to providing personalized mentorship, industry-relevant skills, and wellness support, nurturing not just the technical abilities of our students but also their emotional well-being and professional readiness. By combining performance, production, marketing, and networking opportunities, we foster creativity, resilience, and industry insight. Our goal is to equip young artists with the tools they need to succeed in a rapidly evolving music landscape, ensuring they emerge confident, capable, and connected.

The Cost
$2,490 for the 8 week Spring Semester. This is $38 per hour.

Program:
The program is an 8-week, semester-long experience offered in both the spring and fall. It combines group learning through a workshop series with internship hours focused on key areas such as marketing, live sound, stage management, talent buying, and general operations. Participants also have the opportunity for paid live performances, group cohort meet-ups, and one-on-one mentorship, providing a well-rounded, hands-on learning experience. The summer season will allow for students to apply for part-time employment at RMP or in a similar capacity.
